The A Roman Catholic bishop of Erie, who was to meet with the pope, has been hospitalized in Rome with an unspecified illness.
A spokesman for the Erie diocese said Friday that Bishop Donald Trautman became sick after arriving in Italy earlier this week.
Diocese vicar general Monsignor Robert Smith said Bishop Trautman did not feel well enough to meet with Pope Benedict XVI as scheduled on Thursday.
